Enables quick and contactless check-in/out using RFID cards or fobs, improving convenience, accuracy, and site security.

Overview

The RFID feature streamlines the check-in and check-out process by allowing staff to use RFID cards or fobs for contactless access. With a simple tap, individuals can register their arrival or departure, improving speed, accuracy, and convenience. All activity is logged automatically, providing a reliable and auditable record of site movements.


Getting Started with RFID Check-in

Once delivered, your RFID delivery includes the following:

  • Reader Stand Attachment

  • 3M Adhesive Sticker

  • Reader Power Cable

  • Reader Power Adaptor

  • RFID Slimline Reader in Protective Case


How to Enable the RFID Feature

To enable RFID on the Custr dashboard, follow the steps below:

  1. On your dashboard, navigate to Configuration > Settings

  2. Click Features

  3. Tick the box next to RFID

  4. click the Device Refresh button at the top of your dashboard


Plug in your RFID reader

Plug your RFID reader into a power source using the provided cable and adaptor. Once connected, a green light will appear on the reader to indicate that it is powered on.


Connect your RFID reader to the iPad Device

To connect your RFID to your iPad, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Custr on your iPad

  2. On the check-in screen, click and hold the R of the Custr logo in the bottom right corner of the screen for 10 seconds

  3. From the pop-up that appears, select Reader Settings

  4. On the left-hand side, select the bluetooth device that you would like to connect to

  5. A tick will appear next to the name of the reader once connected

  6. Click the back arrow in the top left corner to return to the check-in screen

Please note: Once your RFID device is successfully connected to Custr, the Bluetooth icon will change from yellow to white.


Attach the Reader Stand to the iPad Device

The reader stand attachment comes with a 3M sticker, as shown above.

1. Peel off the red backing from the sticker and attach it to your iPad in a suitable position.

Please note: Attach the reader on the side of the iPad opposite the charging port.

To maximise the effectiveness of RFID Check-in, we recommend positioning the reader stand attachment as shown in the image below.


Connect your RFID Reader to the Stand Attachment

The 3M adhesive sticker is designed to securely attach your RFID reader to the stand attachment.

1. Peel off the backing from the sticker and attach your RFID reader to the circular stand mount, as shown below.

2. Once your RFID reader is attached using the 3M sticker, your Custr setup should look like the example shown below.


Attach the Wire to your RFID Reader and Plug in Using the Adaptor

The cable included in your delivery is used to power your RFID reader. It is a 3-metre, nylon-braided USB 2.0 to Micro USB charging cable.

Please note: To keep the cables out of sight, feed both the iPad charging cable and the RFID reader cable through the base of the stand. See the image below for reference.


Re-power your RFID reader using the adaptor provided

Once the cable is connected to your RFID reader, insert the USB end into the Anker adaptor and plug it into a mains power outlet.


How to Pair Fobs & Cards to Staff Members

Assigning a fob or card to a staff member is simple with Custr. Once your RFID reader is connected, follow the steps below:

  1. Tap a new fob or card against the RFID reader. A beep will sound to confirm it has been detected

  2. A popup will appear on the iPad, prompting you to assign the fob. Enter the staff member’s name in the search box and select them

  3. Tap the same fob or card again to confirm the assignment

Please note: You can assign multiple fobs or access cards to a single staff member. Simply repeat the steps above for each fob you want to assign.

Once all fobs are assigned, you can view which fob or card is linked to each staff member in the 'Employees' section of your Custr dashboard, beneath their name.


How to Check-in Using RFID Fobs & Cards

To check in using RFID fobs or cards, follow the steps below:

  1. Once assigned, tap the RFID fob or card on the reader to check in or out

  2. A message like "Check In Successful" will appear on the iPad to confirm the fob or card has been detected

Please note: You can repeat these steps to check out using your RFID fob or card as well.


How to Unpair RFID Fobs on the Dashboard

Individual fob

To unpaid an individual RFID fob, follow the steps below

  1. On your dashboard, navigate to Directory > Employees

  2. Click the three dots next to your chosen employees name

  3. Click Remove Tags

Multiple Fobs

If you would like to unpair multiple RFID fobs, follow the steps below:

  1. On your dashboard, navigate to Directory > Employees

  2. Click the three dots next to your chosen employees name

  3. Click Select

  4. Select all the staff members you wish to remove tags for

  5. Scroll down on the right hand side and select Remove Tags


How to Unpair an RFID fob on the app

To unpair an RFID fob on the iPad app, follow the steps below:

  1. On the Custr iPad app, press and hold the 'R' in the Custr logo at the bottom right corner for 10 seconds

  2. From the pop-up menu, select Reader Settings

  3. This will take you to the Bluetooth menu. Tap the fob you wish to unpair against the RFID reader

  4. A pop-up will appear. Select Disconnect to unpair the fob


How to Unpair your RFID Device

To unpair your RFID device, follow the steps below:

  1. On the Custr iPad app, press and hold the 'R' in the Custr logo at the bottom right corner for 10 seconds

  2. From the pop-up menu, select Reader Settings

  3. You'll be taken to the Bluetooth menu. Tap the item with a tick next to it to select the connected device

  4. In the pop-up that appears, select Yes to unpair the device

Please note: If you have multiple RFID readers paired with Custr and disconnect only one, the Bluetooth icon will remain white. It will only flash yellow if all connected readers are disconnected or cannot be found.
