This article has been designed to provide you with a comprehensive guide, from detailed instructions on setting up RFID Check-in to pairing fobs and cards with staff members, this article helps you gain a thorough understanding of everything related to RFID for your e-Reception Book.


Getting Started with RFID Check-in

Once delivered, your RFID delivery includes the following:

  • Reader Stand Attachment

  • 3M Adhesive Sticker

  • Reader Power Cable

  • Reader Power Adaptor

  • RFID Slimline Reader in Protective Case


1) Enable RFID in Settings

To enable RFID on the e-Reception Book dashboard, please do the following steps:


2) Plug in your RFID Reader

Plug your RFID reader into mains with the cable & adaptor provider. Once plugged in, the reader will have a green light to indicate the reader is powered.


3) Connect your RFID Reader to the iPad Device

Please follow the steps provided below to connect your RFID reader to your iPad device:

1. Open the e-Reception Book application on your iPad device.

2. On the check-in Screen, click and hold the ‘R” of the e-Reception Book logo for 10 seconds. You will find this at the bottom right corner of the screen.

3. Once you have done this, a “settings” pop-up will appear on the screen. From here, please click the “Reader settings” box.

4. This will take you to a list of Bluetooth devices. On the left-hand side, click the reader you would like to connect to.

5. A tick will appear next to the name of the reader once connected.

6. Finally, click the back arrow in the top left corner of the screen to return to the check-in screen.

​When your RFID device has been connected to e-Reception Book, you will see the Bluetooth icon light up white from yellow.

4) Attach the Reader Stand to the iPad Device

The reader stand attachment will include a 3M sticker as pictured above.

1. Peel the red sticker (outlined above) and place this on your iPad device in a suitable position.

Important: Place the reader attachment on the opposite side of the charger.

To maximise the use of RFID Check-in, we recommend placing the reader stand attachment as pictured below.


5) Connect your RFID Reader to the Stand Attachment

The 3M adhesive sticker is designed for you to securely place your RFID reader to the stand attachment.

1. Peel the sticker and place your RFID reader on the circular stand attachment as pictured below:

2. Once your RFID reader is stuck to the 3M sticker, e-Reception Book with your RFID reader should look like the picture below:


6) Attach the Wire to your RFID Reader and Plug In using the Adaptor

The cable provided as part of your delivery is used to power your RFID reader. The cable is long nylon braided USB 2.0 micro USB charging cable 3m.

Important: To keep the wire hidden from public view, feed the iPad charging wire & reader cable through the stand base. See picture below.


7) Re-power your RFID Reader using the Adaptor provided

Once the wire has been connected to your RFID reader, insert the USB into the Anker adaptor and plug it into the mains accordingly.

How to Pair Fobs & Cards to Staff Members

Assigning a fob or card to your staff member is quick with e-Reception Book. Once your RFID reader is connected to the e-Reception Book, please follow the steps below:

1. Tap a new fob against the RFID reader device. You should hear a sound confirming that the device has read the fob/card but is currently unassigned.

2. The iPad will display a popup indicating that the fob needs to be assigned to a staff member. Type the name of the staff member in the search box and tap to assign.

3. Finally, tap the fob or card against the reader once more to finalise the assignment for that staff member.


Important: You can assign multiple fobs and access cards to one staff member. All you need to do is replicate the above steps per fob you wish to assign.

Once all fobs have been assigned, you will be able to view who is paired with a fob or card on your e-Reception Book dashboard underneath an individual staff member's name in the 'Employees' section.


How to Check In Using RFID Fobs & Cards

Using your existing RFID fobs and cards to check in is quick and easy with e-Reception Book. Please follow the steps provided below if you would like to do this:


1. Once you have assigned the fob to a staff member & connected the reader to the iPad, you can tap the fob against the RFID reader to check in and check out.


2. You will see a 'Check In Successful' message on the iPad screen once the fob has been successfully tapped.

Important: These steps can be repeated if you also wish to check out using your RFID fob or card.


How to unpair an RFID Fob on the Dashboard

Unpair Individual RFID Fob

If you would like to unpair an individual RFID fob via the dashboard please follow the steps provided below:

If you would like to unpair multiple RFID fobs via the dashboard, please follow the steps provided below:


How to unpair an RFID Fob on the App

If you would like to unpair an individual RFID fob via the e-Reception Book app, please follow the below steps:

1. Press and hold the e-Reception Book logo in the bottom right corner, for approximately 10 seconds to bring up the menu.

2. Select ‘Reader Settings’.

3. This will take you to the Bluetooth menu.

4. From here, tap the fob you wish to remove and a pop-up will appear on the application outlining the details of who the fob is paired to. From here, you can choose to disconnect.

How to Unpair Your RFID Device

If you would like to unpair your RFID device from your e-Reception Book, please follow the steps outlined below:

1. On your e-Reception Book home screen, press and hold the e-Reception Book logo at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, for approx 10 seconds to bring up the sub-menu.

2. Select ‘Reader Settings’.

3. You will then be taken to a Bluetooth section. To unpair a reader, click the item on the menu with a tick next to it.

4. When successful, the application will confirm this action and the tick will be removed from the item.

Important: If you have multiple RFID readers paired to e-Reception Book and remove one whilst the other is still connected, the Bluetooth icon will remain white. It will only flash yellow if both readers have been disconnected/can’t be found.


RFID Slimline Reader Key Information

  • The reader must be powered with the power cable and adaptor provided

  • The reader must be connected to the iPad via Bluetooth connection

  • Place the reader in close proximity to the iPad as Bluetooth only has a limited connection radius

  • You can connect multiple readers to one iPad
