Companion App Access vs Dashboard Access

Understand the difference between Companion App access and dashboard access in Custr, and how roles and permissions affect what users can see

Updated today

Overview

Custr provides two ways for users to access the system:

  • The Custr Dashboard (desktop/web)

  • The Custr Companion App (mobile)

Access to each depends on Account Access and Roles & Permissions.

Dashboard Access

The Custr Dashboard is the main platform used for:

  • System setup and configuration

  • Managing users, roles, and permissions

  • Reporting and data analysis

  • Advanced features and settings

Users with dashboard access typically include:

  • Administrators

  • Managers

  • Staff responsible for setup and management

Companion App Access

The Custr Companion App is designed for day-to-day use and mobile access.

It allows users to:

  • Receive notifications

  • Manage visitors, deliveries, and items

  • View evacuation lists

  • Take action on the go

The Companion App is ideal for staff who need quick access without using the full dashboard.

Account Access (Logging In)

To use either the dashboard or the Companion App, a user must have:

  • Account Access enabled

  • A valid email address

  • A completed account setup (password created)

Without Account Access, a user:

  • Cannot log in

  • Cannot use the Companion App

  • May still exist in the system for notifications only

Roles & Permissions (What Users Can See)

Roles and permissions control what features a user can access.

This applies to both:

  • The dashboard

  • The Companion App

For example:

  • A user may have access to notifications only

  • Some users may not be able to see the Evacuation View

  • Others may have full access to manage visitors, deliveries, or items

If a user cannot see a feature, this is usually due to their assigned role.
