Recommended MIS Settings & Configuration

Learn about the recommended settings and configuration options for schools using MIS Integration to help improve attendance writeback, maintain accurate data, and ensure your integration operates reliably.

Overview

Once your MIS Integration has been configured, there are several settings and configuration recommendations that can help you get the most from Custr.

This article outlines the options we recommend enabling, along with provider-specific configuration required for certain MIS platforms.

Following these recommendations can help improve attendance writeback, reduce common administration issues, and ensure your MIS integration continues to operate reliably.

Before making any changes, we recommend reading How Custr Works with Your MIS to understand how synchronisation and attendance writeback operate.

Reason Exact Match Required

Recommended for: Schools using MIS attendance writeback.

When students record a Late Arrival or Early Leave, they can be asked to provide a reason.

If free-text reasons are allowed, the reason entered may not match one of the attendance reasons configured within your MIS. When this happens, Custr cannot assign the correct attendance code, preventing the attendance event from being written back successfully.

Enabling Reason Exact Match Required ensures students must select one of the approved attendance reasons configured within your school, helping improve the reliability and accuracy of attendance writeback.

To enable this setting:

  1. Navigate to Configuration → Settings

  2. Select Students → Late Arrival & Early Leave

  3. Enable Reason Exact Match Required

  4. Refresh your iPad using the Refresh Device icon at the top of the Dashboard

Enable Minutes Late

Recommended for: Arbor, SIMS and iSAMS schools using attendance writeback.

The Minutes Late setting automatically calculates how many minutes a student arrived late based on the time they checked in.

To do this, Custr uses your configured:

  • AM Registration End Time

  • PM Registration End Time

When a student checks in after registration has closed, Custr automatically calculates the number of minutes late and includes this information when writing attendance back to your MIS.

This helps ensure attendance records remain accurate without requiring staff to calculate late minutes manually.

To configure this setting:

  1. Navigate to Configuration → Settings

  2. Select Students → Late Arrival & Early Leave

  3. Enable Minutes Late

  4. Enter your school’s AM Registration End Time

  5. Enter your school’s PM Registration End Time

Changes are saved automatically.

Automatic Early Leave Check-In

Recommended for: All schools using the Early Leave feature.

Students who leave the site early remain marked as offsite until they return or are automatically checked back in.

To help keep attendance records and the Evacuation View accurate, Custr includes an automation that checks students back in after a specified time.

As a default, this automation is enabled and automatically checks any remaining offsite students back in overnight, ensuring records are clear and ready for the next school day.

You can also:

  • Change the automatic check-in time

  • Use a duration instead of a fixed time

  • Disable the automation if required

To configure this setting:

  1. Navigate to Configuration → Settings

  2. Select Automation

  3. Configure Auto Offsite Check-In Time/Duration

  4. Choose your preferred time or duration

Changes are saved automatically.

Please note: This automation only applies to students who have left early.

Students recorded as Late Arrivals are automatically managed by Custr and do not require any additional configuration.

Bromcom Configuration

Required for: All Bromcom integrations.

Schools using Bromcom should enable Use MIS Employee ID to ensure attendance writeback functions correctly.

To configure this setting:

  1. Navigate to Site

  2. Select Integrations

  3. Enable Use MIS Employee ID

  4. Select any employee from the dropdown list

If you are unsure whether this setting has already been configured, please contact our Support team.

Schools Moving from Wonde to Arbor

If your school was previously connected through Wonde and has recently moved to Arbor, your integration settings will need to be updated.

Please contact our Support team before reconnecting so we can:

  • Disconnect your previous Wonde integration

  • Configure your new direct Arbor integration

  • Ensure synchronisation continues correctly

This helps prevent duplicate integrations and ensures your MIS continues to synchronise as expected.
