Overview
The Student Late Arrival & Early Leave feature allows schools to record when students:
Arrive late
Leave early
This ensures accurate attendance tracking during the school day and provides full visibility of student movement on-site.
This feature can be used across all age groups, with check-in either completed by the student or a member of staff (e.g. reception).
Where students can check in and out
Students can be recorded as late or leaving early using:
Custr iPad Check-In app
Custr dashboard (by staff or administrators)
This feature is not available on the Companion App
How it works
On the iPad:
Select Pupils
Enter or select the student’s name
The system identifies the student
During the school day, the following options are shown:
Arrive Late
Leave Early
The student (or staff member) selects a reason
The check-in or check-out is recorded
When late and early options are available
Late arrival and early leave are available throughout the school day.
For example:
If your school day is 9:00am – 3:00pm
Students can:
Arrive late at any time after 9:00am
Leave early at any time before 3:00pm
Outside of these times, the system will follow your before and after school session setup (if enabled)
Reasons and questions
When recording a late arrival or early leave:
A reason must be selected
Schools can:
Use MIS-linked reasons
Create custom reasons
Allow free text entry
Additional questions can also be added, such as:
Lunch requirements
Who the student is leaving with
Additional notes
Using with MIS integration
If your school uses MIS integration:
Students are selected from your MIS directory
Attendance data can be written back to your MIS (if supported)
Reasons can be linked to attendance codes
This ensures accurate and automated attendance records
Without MIS integration
If you are not using MIS integration:
Students can enter their name manually
Attendance will still be recorded within Custr
However, data will not write back to an MIS
Where attendance is recorded
Once recorded, late arrivals and early departures will appear in:
The Custr dashboard
The Evacuation View
This ensures staff always have visibility of who is on-site.
Who can complete check-in
Late arrival and early leave can be recorded by:
Students (self check-in)
Staff (e.g. reception or admin teams)
This may vary depending on the age group and school process
Important notes
Late arrival and early leave are available throughout the school day
A reason must always be selected
MIS integration is required for writeback
The Companion App does not support student check-in
Students must be in your MIS (or directory) for writeback to work
